A Healing Ceremony for all affected by Female Genital Cutting.
The Yoni remains perpetually pure and is not tainted by any action’
For 5000 years, the wombs and vaginas of the women and young girls in South Africa and Africa have been crying in pain. Their elders have taken young girls to circumcisers, to have parts of their vaginas cut and altered as part of rites of passage into adulthood. More than 125 million girls and women alive today have been cut in the 29 countries in Africa and the Middle East where FGM is concentrated.
How can we all heal, when our sisters are in agony? Our sacred wombs and yonis hold all our stories and feelings. It is from this sacred center that we move out into the world, that we birth new life, new dreams, plant new seeds.
The 6 February has been declared the International Day of Zero Tolerance Against FGM by the UN. Please join me as I Call for a Worldwide Circle of Healing – to heal the trauma experienced by FGM.
As a survivor of FGM, I know that this practice affects our families and communities. We cannot exclude them in our prayers nor can we ignore the role the cutters play. I offer his sacred healing ceremony with all of my heart. as part of my own healing journey. May harmful practices that rob our girls of their innocence and joy be replaced by practices that enrich all our lives. May the Women of Africa Rise – and create new ceremonies that will enrich our bodies and feed our souls.
